Jigsaw Blades

Jigsaw blades come in different tooth counts and materials depending on whether you're cutting wood, metal, plastic, or tile. Jigsaw Blades for Wood, Metal, and Specialty Materials

A jigsaw is only as good as the blade that is locked into it. The right blade makes a clean cut in wood, metal, plastic, laminate, and tile. Wood-cutting blades with lower TPI (teeth per inch) pick up speed when cutting framing lumber or plywood. For splinter-free edges, move up to a 10TPI or higher blade for finer work.

Metal calls for a different tooth geometry entirely. HSS and bi-metal blades do not dull after 2 cuts on sheet metal, conduit, or thin steel. Plastic and laminate require a blade that has closer teeth spacing to prevent chipping. Tile and masonry require a T130DG grit blade that can do the abrasive jobs that standard steel teeth cannot.

The number of teeth is only one consideration. Blade material is equally important. High-carbon steel (HCS) blades bend more easily and suit softer materials, such as wood. Bi-metal blades have a hard surface and a flexible cutting edge, making them effective for mixed-material jobs. Carbide-tipped blades stay sharp through the toughest, most abrasive cuts.

How to Choose the Right Jigsaw Blade

Most jigsaws available in the collection are T-shank, whether they're made by Makita, Dewalt or Bosch. The T-shank locks into the saw without tools and stays secure when loaded. Some older or budget saws still use U-shank blades, so read your jigsaw's manual before ordering.

Narrower blades are used for curves and detail work and have a higher TPI count. For the plunge cut, you will need a blade with a strong, straight tip that will not need to have a starter hole.

Jigsaw Blade Maintenance and Replacement

Change the blade when teeth have been lost, the speed of cutting has decreased, or burning marks are seen. A dull saw requires more force to cut and can cause the motor to heat up and create a risk for kickback. Unplug the saw before changing blades, and ensure fingers are not in the path of the saw's blade during the cut. Use clamps to hold the material in place, not your fingers.
